The Power of Community
Our #EatNZKaitaki Brittany Stembridge is a farmer/kai grower at Tomtit Farm, an organic market garden in the heart of Mātangi in the Waikato. For her and husband James community is everything.
Over the last couple of years, the thing I am most proud of is the Tomtit Farm whānau community that we’ve created through our seasonal harvest CSA (community-supported agriculture).
Here are a few things I’m especially proud of…
I'm proud of the community of people that are connected to us as their farmer, knowing that the food that we grow, feeds their families.
I’m proud of the care that they have for the soils that feed them.
I’m proud of the beautiful meals that they create and share with us and the rest of our CSA community while trying new things and learning along the way.
Lastly, I’m proud to see them getting excited and having a go at growing food themselves.
It’s a hard concept to convey in images but I've attempted to capture our community in the image below.
“There is nothing better than getting home to a big bag of fresh veg from Tomtit farm waiting at your doorstep, a very welcome visitor. The veges are jam-packed with love and healing, the anticipation of pulling out each veg one at a time, the familiar ones, the non-familiar ones which often become a family fav! Delicious.” - Jamiee L
It’s such an honour to say that I am their farmer and love growing food for their families. - Brittany Stembridge, Tomtit Farm.
